It is very difficult to argue that 2010 wasn't the best year in hip hop during the first decade of the 21st Century when you listen to amazing albums like the compilation album "100 Proof" by Statik Selektah, the chopped and screwed work of art "Killa Keylon Purple Punch Volume 3" by Boss Hog Outlawz to the artist that Eminem only wishes he was as creative as and that's Homeboy Sandman with his debut masterpiece "The Good Sun".
Other outstanding albums in 2010 came from Trademark Da Skydiver "Super Villain Issue #3", Smoke Dza "George Kush Da Button", Masta Killa "Live", 2 Hungry Bros "No Room for Dessert", 7L & Esoteric "1212", Reflection Eternal "Revolutions Per Minute", Apollo Brown "The Reset" and Marco Polo "The Stupendous Adventures of Marco Polo". And the best Hip Hop album I think we all can agree came from Kanye West with the glimpse into his mind that he titled my "Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy".
If my choice for best album of January 2011 is any indicator of the rest of the year this might be one for the ages, right up there with 1988 when we were blessed with albums like Strictly Business, Critical Beatdown, Follow the Leader, Tougher than Leather and Straight Out the Jungle.
Ladies and gentleman without further ado I present to you the best Hip Hop album of January from none other than my borough brother Talib Kweli the album "Gutter Rainbows".
There are three joints out of the 14 tracks that miss for me. One because Jean Grae is on it and I just can't stand to hear the chicks voice. I can't front. The other songs are Tater Tot and wait for me. The other 11 joints are bangers and you need to get this album but please support the artist and be a real patron of the arts. It is time for Hip Hop music lovers to grow up and vote for music we like this with our dollars and not just head nods.
